Balance sheet format in Excel with formulas

All Excel templates are not created equal! Most of the free templates which are available contain little to no automation which means that they are only really useful if you want a specific balance sheet format which you can use to enter data and to then print or share.

If what you are after is a balance sheet format with a lot more automation and which can be populated from transactions or amounts that you enter, you are not going to find a free Excel template capable of doing this. You would therefore inevitably need to purchase a solution which contains formulas facilitating the required level of automation.

The next question is whether you want to produce a balance sheet from actual results or a forecasted balance sheet for future periods? To produce a balance sheet format in Excel with formulas can be done both for actual results and forecasts.

We have three unique Excel accounting templates which can produce balance sheets with a lot of automation and which are based on formulas which calculate balance sheet totals based on the income and expense transactions that are entered by the user. These templates also contain a lot of additional automated reports for bank account balances, sales tax and more.

If you want to produce a balance sheet format based on forecasted results, we've also got you covered! We provide a comprehensive range of cash flow forecast templates with formulas which automatically calculate the entire balance sheet.

Balance sheet items like fixed assets, intangible assets and investments are calculated based on the forecasted capital expenditure which is specified by the user. Working capital balances are based on user assumptions for inventory days, debtors days and creditors days.

Long term loans are calculated based initial loan balances, proceeds from new loans and the capital and interest that is repaid. All repayments are calculated based on loan amortization tables to split repayments into their capital and interest portions. Interest charges are included on the income statement and capital repayments reduce the outstanding loan balances.

Share capital calculations are based on proceed amounts which are specified by the user and the retained earnings balance is linked to the income statement. The cash balance is used as the balancing figure because it is basically the result of all of the other automated calculations.

As you can probably tell, our cash flow forecast templates contain a lot of formulas which provide an unmatched level of automation! We've not even mentioned the flexibility that we included for calculations of sales tax, income tax and payroll accruals and taxes.

Most of our balance sheet calculations in our cash flow forecast templates are based on user assumptions and the only difference between the various cash flow templates that we provide is the periods on which they are based. We provide weekly, monthly and annual cash flow templates and even a business plan forecast which is based on 12 monthly and 5 annual periods.
